Mahaganapati Vakyartha Sabha
Jagadguru performing Vinayaka-chaturthi puja
Conducted in Sri Sacchidananda Vilas in Narasimha Vanam, the Mahaganapati Vakyartha Sabha proceedings consisted of deliberations in Shastras such as Vedanta, Mimamsa, Nyaya and Vyakarana. About 50 erudite shastric scholars across the country participated in the Sabha and deliberated in Sanskrit for 13 days from Vinayaka Chaturthi day (Sep 1st). While the audience marvelled at the spectacle of the Shastric deliberations in the Jagadguru’s divine presence and presidentship, scholars presented their topics and delighted in the erudition of the Jagadguru.
The Sabha concluded on Sep 13th with a Valedictory function. Adminitrator & CEO, Dr. V R Gowrishankar welcomed the scholars and offered thanks on behalf of all devotees for their participation. He also mentioned that scholars can readily avail the services of the Peetham’s Vidya Bharati press for publishing their research works.
All the assembled scholars were felicitated by the Peetham’s Shastra Poshaka Sabha, Veda Vedanta Gurukula Mahavidyalaya and Gudemarnahalli Ganapati Shastri Chayamma Trust.
The Jagadguru released 2 books on the occasion. The first book is the Brahmasutra Bhashya of Sri Adi Shankaracharya, a revised reprint of the original 1910 Vani Vilas edition. The Jagadguru in His Sanskrit Anugraha Bhashanam explained that under the direction of His Parameshti Guru, Jagadguru Sri Sacchidananda Shivabhinava Narasimha Bharati Mahaswamiji, the complete works of Sri Adi Shankaracharya had first been published a century ago under the title “Sri Shankara Granthavali” by the Vani Vilas press at Srirangam, run by an ardent disciple Guru Bhakta Shikhamani Sri T K Balasubrahmanya Iyer. Considering the uniqueness of the edition, and the need for a revised reprint, the Sringeri Sharada Peetham is bringing out the book for the benefit of all Astikas. Fittingly, efforts towards the publication were primarily undertaken by the Sringeri Shankara Math at Srirangam and printed in the Peetham’s Vidya Bharati press.
The second book contains the contains the Proceedings of the 2010 Vidwat Sabha. Topics discussed last year have been summarized by the respective scholars in this book which can serve as a useful guide for young scholars as well as the interested seeker. The Jagadguru mentioned that this book, being printed annually over the last few years, has been titled “Vidwat Pratibha” as it brings out the scholarship of the participating scholars.
