Vishesha Puja at the ancient Sri Rishyashringeshwara Swami temple, Kigga, Sringeri
It is well known that an inseparable and sacred bond exists between the temple of Sri Rishyashringeshwara at Kigga (located 8 km from Sringeri) and the Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham at Sringeri. Revered as the deity of rain, Sri Rishyashringeshwara is fervently worshipped during times of drought, and through such prayers, people have been blessed with timely rains and prosperity. Around a hundred years ago, the region of Kigga faced severe tribulations and hardships. In response, the devout residents earnestly prayed to the then 34th Jagadguru of the Sharada Peetham, Sri Chandrashekhara Bharati Mahaswamiji, the renowned Jivanmukta. Moved by their prayers, the Jagadguru graciously directed that the consecration of Sri Shantambika be performed to the left of Sri Rishyashrungeshwara Swami, and that She be duly worshipped. His Holiness performed the Maha Kumbhabhisheka with His Lotus hands. Thereafter, the region witnessed the alleviation of all its afflictions.
With the blessings of Sringeri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahasannidhanam, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Sannidhanam performed Vishesha puja at the Rishyashringeshwara Swami temple on June 13, 2026.
As part of the celebrations, the Maharudra Yaga and Shatachandi Mahayaga were conducted with great devotion. The Sankalpas for these Mahayagas were undertaken by Jagadguru Sri Sannidhanam and the Poornahutis were performed earlier in the day in His divine presence.
Thereafter, Jagadguru Sri Sannidhanam blessed the assembled devotees with His Anugraha Bhashanam.
