Sri Shankara Jayanti Mahotsava
Shankara Jayanti Utsav was celebrated in a grand manner in Sringeri.
Today we are the followers of Sanatana Dharma only because of the relentless efforts of Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya, the incarnation of Lord Paramashiva. Twelve centuries ago, the great Acharya spread the Upanishadic import of Advaita touring all over the country. With great foresight, Sri Adi Shankaracharya established four Amnaya Peethams in the four directions of India. Among these, the Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham established at Sringeri has been adorned by an unbroken succession of illustrious Gurus right from Sri Adi Shankaracharya's direct disciple, Sri Sureshwaracharya. The lives of the Acharyas and their efforts to continue the mission of Sri Adi Shankaracharya are remarkable and unique. By their own conduct and by their discourses, the Acharyas of the Peetham teach Dharma and instill the need for paying gratitude to Sri Adi Shankaracharya among the masses.
In the Parabhava Samvatsara, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahasannidhanam has ordained that the Sri Shankara Jayanti Mahotsava be celebrated at Sringeri from April 18, 2026 to April 21, 2026. The programme included Special Poojas at the shrine of Sri Shankara Bhagavatpadacharya in the mornings and Pravachanams in the august presence of Jagadguru Mahaswamiji in the evenings. Parayana of the Vedas and Sri Vidyaranya Veda Bhashya were conducted in the morning and evening on all these days.
As part of the Celebrations, the Veda Poshaka Sabha of the Sringeri Math conducted a conference of Vedic scholars. This Sabha was commenced 52 years ago by the 35th Acharya of the Peetham, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamiji for the propagation of Vedic knowledge. Since then, students belonging to various Veda Shakhas from all over the country have been participating in the Veda Pareeksha conducted by the Sabha. Successful candidates have been honoured with certificates and cash awards as per the instruction of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji. Such scholars who have passed the exam are invited every year and honoured.
On Vaishakha Shukla Panchami (April 21, 2026), the auspicious day of Sri Shankara Jayanti, special puja, Mahamangalarati, and Kanakabhisheka was performed to the sacred murti of Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya by the Jagadguru Sri Mahasannidhanam and Jagadguru Sri Sannidhanam was also present. In the evening, Vedic recitations, Shankara Digvijaya Parayana, and Anugraha Bhashanam was held, followed by Mangalarati in the divine presence of Jagadguru Sri Sannidhanam.
On Vaishakha Shukla Shashti (April 22, 2026), a grand Rathotsava of Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya will take place in the morning. In the evening, honours to Vedic scholars and certificates to successful students are going to be conferred by Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Mahaswamiji.
On April 23, 2026, Teppotsava of Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya took place in the divine presence of Jagadguru Sri Sannidhanam in the evening.
