Every month, the night prior to Amavasya (Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi) is called maasa Shivaratri. In the month of maghaa (Chandramana panchang), it is celebrated as Maha Shivaratri.

This year, MahaShivaratri at Sringeri Math, Pune, will be celebrated on 20 feb 2012 (Monday).

Abhishekam will be conducted from 9PM to 12 midnight. Eleven (11) vidyarthis and adhyapak from Ved patshala of Alandi kshetra will recite laghu Rudram (11 * 11 times).
