Foundation for Sringeri Shankara Math at Tripura


 


CEO Sri V R Gowrishankar and Sri Abhishek Chandra, IAS unveil the plaque commemorating the foundation laying ceremony for a Sringeri Math in Tripura on 7th Nov 2013

With the blessings of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji, the foundation stone was laid for a Sringeri Shankara Math in Bilaspur Gram Panchayat, Unakoti District in the North Eastern Indian state of Tripura. Administrator & CEO of the Peetham, Sri V R Gowrishankar, and District Collector Sri Abhishek Chandra presided over the function held on 7th November 2013. The idea for the Math was mooted by the Collector, Sri Abhishek Chandra who had contacted Sri Gowrishankar for securing the Jagadguru’s blessings. Gram Pradhan Krishna Kumar Sinha A number of local landlords donated lands on which the Math would be constructed. Besides temples for Goddess Sharada and other deities taking shape, construction would also take place for a community hall, a Goshala, a health centre along with a number of social initiatives at the site. The site is located at the banks of the river Manu in a sylvan setting very similar to that of Sringeri. Hundreds of devout residents of Unakoti District attended the foundation stone laying ceremony.

  • It is pitiful that when many of us are asked, “who are you?”, The first thought that arises is “I am a Keralite”, or “I am a Punjabi”, etc. The thought that should immediately stem is “I am an Indian”.
