Sri Sri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Mahasamsthanam, Dakshinamanaya Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri

Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri

Mahashivaratri 2025

Dear Astikas,

Sringeri is the sacred Tapobhumi of the great Maharshi Rishyashringa, who was instrumental in bringing about the birth of Bhagavan Sri Rama by conducting the Putrakameshti Yaga for Maharaja Dasharatha in the Treta Yuga.

Maharshi Vibhandaka, the father of Maharshi Rishyashringa, performed Tapas here. Pleased, Lord Shiva manifested as the Malahanikareshwara Shivalinga in Sringeri on the Ishwaragiri hillock.

From then on, Maharshi Vibhandaka, Maharshi Rishyashringa, Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya and the Acharyas of the unbroken lineage of the Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, have all offered elaborate worship to Sri Bhavani Malahanikareshwara Swami. Bhagavan Malahanikareshwara has been fulfilling the earnest wishes of all devotees by removing the obstacles like drought and excessive rain.

Rulers of various kingly states including Vijayanagara who were disciples of the Sharada Peetham at Sringeri in the past have made significant contributions by donating many surrounding villages to Sri Bhavani Malahanikareshwara. The most significant of the numerous festivals celebrated annually at this renowned temple is the Maharathotsava, which is conducted with Sapta-Ahnika-Deeksha on the occasion of Mahashivaratri.

With the blessings of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji, the festivities will take place from Magha Krishna Dashami of Shobhakrit Samvatsara (Sunday, 23.2.2025) to Phalguna Shuddha Dwitiya, (Saturday, 1.3.2025).

Several events are planned for this occasion, including the Maharudrayaga in Sri Math, the Mahapuja performed on Mahashivaratri day (26.2.2025) by Jagadguru Mahaswamiji at Ishwaragiri, the Chaturyama Puja, the Laksha Mallikarchana & Maharathotsava on Amavasya day, the daily Dolotsava, the Sripanchakshari- Srividya-Mahaganapatyadi-Mantranushthanas, and the Parayana of the four Vedas and Puranas.

I request all the devotees to participate in the events, receive the blessings of the Ubhaya Jagadgurus, have Darshana of Sri Bhavani Malahanikareshwara Swami, and be the recipients of their divine grace.
