Book on First Struggle for Independence released

On 21st May 2007 evening, the Jagadguru released a book titled “1857 – Bharateeya Swatantraya Sangrama”, a Kannada translation of the Marathi original penned by freedom fighter Sri Veer Savarkar. The effort that was initiated and blessed by the Jagadguru two years back saw fruition this year, which is the 150th anniversary of the famous First Struggle for Independence that took place in 1857. The Jagadguru in His Anugraha Bhashana pointed that “freedom” implied that this great country would be governed by people who revered the hoary culture and Vaidika Parampara. The Jagadguru while remembering the contribution of the freedom fighters pointed out that Savarkar’s account is true to facts and commended the efforts of Sri Babu Krishnamoorti who translated the work into Kannada. The Jagadguru added that everyone must strive to achieve another freedom – a mental one whereby one can control the mind instead of trying to appease all its desires. The Jagadguru underlined that this freedom, arising out of controlling the senses, cannot be obtained through others but has to be the result of each one’s individual effort
