Jagadguru completes 39th Chaturmasya


 

Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji completed His 39th Chaturmasya on 19th September 2013 at Sringeri.

During the Chaturmasya period, the Jagadguru performed a number of Pujas and observed a number of Vratas. These included the elaborate Shravana Somavara Pujas, the Varamahalakshmi Vrata, and the Krishna Janmashtami Puja in August. Swarna Gowri Vrata was observed in the Math premises at Pravachana Mandiram on 8th September. Many Suvasinis came to the Math from in and around Sringeri and offered worship.

On 9th September, the Jagadguru performed the Vinayaka Chaturthi Puja. At 4 pm, the Mahaganapati Vakyartha Vidwat Sabha commenced under the august chairmanship of the Jagadguru. As part of the week-long Ganesha Chaturthi Celebrations in the Sadvidya Sanjeevini Samskrita Mahapathashala, Vidwan Hitlalli Soornarayana Bhat and Vidwan S T Nagaraja Rao gave inspiring speeches to the Vidyarthis during the Vag Vardhini Sabha with inspiring speeches.

Kedareshwara Vrata (13th September), Sri Vamana Jayanti Puja (15th September) and Ananta Padmanabha Vrata (18th September) were devoutly performed by the Jagadguru.

The Jagadguru observed the Uma Maheshwara Vrata on 19th September to mark the completion of His 39th Chaturmasya Vrata Anushtanam. Later in the evening, the Jagadguru undertook Seemollanghanam – crossing the boundary – by crossing over to the northern bank of the Tunga. The Jagadguru then had Darshan at Goddess Sharada temple. Thereafter, the Jagadguru walked to the temple of Lord Malahanikareshwara situated on a nearby hillock, and had Darshan.
