The Jagadguru pointed out that Sri Udupa’s Punyakarma had made him to come to Sringeri when he was in poverty during his younger days. Sri Udupa had studied the Rig Veda and Sahitya at Sringeri Pathashala and served in the Pathashala for many years. The Jagadguru appreciated the Gurubhakti of Sri Udupa and said that even at his ripe age of 87, he executes the directives of the Jagadguru with unswerving obedience.
