Vinayaka Chaturthi at Sringeri & Commencement of Vidwat Sabha

Vinayaka Chaturthi was observed with great festivity at Sringeri on September 17 2015. Jagadguru Shankaracharaya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahasannidhanam offered special Puja to Lord Mahaganapati at Guru Nivas at around 12 noon. After initially worshipping Lord Ratnagarbha Ganapati, Sri Mahasannidhanam performed Panchamrita Abhisheka to the Vigraha of Lord Mahaganapati. Chants of Ganapathi Atharvasheersha and the Ganapathi Suktam from the Rig Veda rent the air. The Puja ended with Mahasannidhanam offering Archana and Mahamangalarati. Immediately afterwards, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Sannidhanam performed a special Puja to the same Vigraham of Lord Mahaganapati.

Special Pujas were also offered to Sri Torana Ganapati, Sri Vidya Ganapati in the Vidyashankara temple, Sri Stambha Ganapati in Sri Malahanikareshwara temple, and Sri Shakti Ganapati in the Goddess Sharadamba temple. Puja to a large Vigraha of Lord Vinayaka was performed in the Pravachana Mandiram by an Archaka of the Math.

In the afternoon, at 4 pm, the annual Mahaganapati Vakyartha Vidwat Sabha for the ensuing Manmatha Samvatsara commenced in the divine presence of the Jagadgurus and under the august presidentship of Sri Mahasannidhanam. About 50 eminent scholars from all over the country will deliberate on various topics in Vedanta, Mimamsa, Nyaya and Vyakarana.

It was a great sight to behold Sri Mahasannidhanam and Sri Sannidhanam (in His first Chaturmasya Vrata) grace the Sabha. Both the Acharyas first offered their prostrations to Sri Sabha Ganapati in the main hall of Sri Sacchidananda Vilas, Narasimha Vanam. The proceedings of the first day of the Sabha, began with Veda Ghosha and Prayer.

Scholars and devotees present had the joy of witnessing and listening to the first Vakyartha in Nyaya Shastra, delivered by Jagadguru Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Sannidhanam. Sri Sannidhanam’s brilliant exposition on the selected topic, related to the Satpratipaksha Lakshanam in Nyaya Shastra, was interspersed with questions from Sri Mahasannidhanam. With Sri Mahasannidhanam questioning and guiding the session, and Sri Sannidhanam answering and expounding at ease, the audience was left enthralled. Vakyarthas by Vyakarana and Nyaya scholars of Sringeri then took place. The Sabha ended for the day with Mahamangalarati to Lord Sabha Ganapati followed by Astaavadhaana Seva.

The renowned Mahaganapati Vakyartha Vidwat Sabha will continue until September 29 2015, taking place every evening from about 4 pm to about 8 pm under the august president of Sri Mahasannidhanam.

  • The Self (Atma) is never born nor does It ever die; neither does It cease to exist after having once existed nor does the Self come into existence, like the body, having not existed before. • Our nation and its culture have a hoary past and we should all be proud of it. Mere aping of the West is not beneficial for us. For example, care of aged parents is something that has come down to us traditionally and we must never neglect this duty by imbibing concepts of some free societies, wherein concern for one’s own parents is at low ebb.
