Swarna Mahotsava of Kannada Vaishya Samaja
The golden jubilee celebrations of the observance of “Magha Shuddha Pratipade”, a community event of the Kannada Vaishya Samaja was held at Guru Nivas in Sringeri in the divine presence of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahasannidhanam on February 4, 2019. The observance of “Magha Shuddha Pratipade” was initiated and blessed upon the Samaja by the 35th Acharya of the Peetham, Jagadguru Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamiji in 1969. Since then, the members of the Samaja across Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra have had the practice of coming together to wherever the Sringeri Jagadguru is on the first day of the Magha masa and receiving the Jagadguru’s blessings.
In the Sabha to commemorate the Swarna Mahotsava, Sri Mahasannidhanam released a souvenir, DVD and photo album detailing the Guru-Shishya relationship between the Sringeri Jagadgurus and the Samaja over the centuries. Sri Mahasannidhanam then blessed the gathering of thousands of community members who filled the Guru Nivas Hall with an elaborate Anugraha Bhashanam. Sri Mahasannidhanam highlighted the greatness of Sri Adi Shankaracharya and the importance of chanting the Ashottara Shatanamavali of Sri Adi Shankaracharya.
Sri Mahasannidhanam also stated that some of the members of the Samaja had wondered upon why the 35th Jagadguru would have chosen the first day of the month of “Magha”. Sri Mahasannidhanam explained that it is our Sampradaya to worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti. It is in the month of Magha that we have special days to worship both the Goddess on Lalita Panchami (also called Sri Panchali) and the Lord on Mahashivaratri. Sri Mahasannidhanam also stated that the month of “Magha” is special in Sringeri Math for it is in this month that the Sharadamba Rathotsava (on Magha Shukla Triteeya) and Malahanikareshwara Rathotsava (Magha Krishna Amavasya) are celebrated. Sri Mahasannidhanam blessed the entire gathering with Mantrakshata.
