Bhashyamrita Vahini – Discourses on the Taittiriyopanishad Bhashya of Adi Shankaracharya

On March 18, 2019 Jagadguru Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Sannidhanam inaugurated the week long Bhashyamrita Vahini Pravachana Karyakrama Sabha organised by Vedanta Bharati of the Yadathore Math in the Chikmagalur district.

Sri Sannidhanam gave an Anugraha Bhashanam on the occasion highlighting the import of the Taittireeya Upanishad and the profundity of the Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya’s Bhashya (commentary) on it.

As part of the event at the Sringeri Pravachana Mandiram, Asthana Vidwan of Sringeri Math, Vidwan Mahamahopadhyaya Sri Mahabaleshwara Bhat, and Vidwan Sri Ganesh Ishwara Bhat, Professor of Vedanta of the Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetham delivered lectures on the Taittireeya Upanishad over the week.

The valedictory of the event was held in the afternoon of March 24 at Gurunivas, Narasimhavanam in the divine presence of the Jagadguru Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Sannidhanam. The event was attended by thousands of people from the entire Chikmagalur district, with the Bhashyamrita Vahini program being conducted in more than a dozen centres in the district over the week.

During the valedictory, the Yadathore Yogananda Saraswati Mathadhipati, Sri Shankara Bharati Swamiji speaking on the occasion quoted a verse from the Acharya-Padaavalamba-Stava (composed by Jagadguru Sri Sacchidananda Shivabhinava Narasimha Bharati Mahaswamiji) and explained how Sri Adi Shankara Bhagavatpada had by His works instilled Vairagya in Sannyasis and the desire to engage in Dharmic acts for Grihasthas. The Swamiji explained that the Bhashyamrita Vahini program had been copiously blessed by Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahasannidhanam and was being held in different parts of Karnataka. The Swamiji ended his Anugraha Bhashanam by offering his Pranams at the Lotus Feet of the Ubhaya Jagadgurus.

Sri Sannidhanam blessed the gathering with an elaborate Anugraha Bhashanam. Sri Sannidhanam said that Sri Adi Shankaracharya has penned various works to establish the Upanishadic philosophy of Advaita. Bhagavan Veda Vyasa Himself had blessed the Acharya’s Brahma Sutra Bhashya as having perfectly communicated the import of the Brahma Sutras.

One born as a human being must try to know the import of one’s own Self – the “Aham” or the “I”. The “I” remains unchanged whatever differences arise in the states of human life.

The Shastras state that the Absolute Brahman, which is indeed this Self, does not have “Desha-Pariccheda”, “Kaala-Pariccheda” and “Vastu-Pariccheda” in the Shastras. This implies that Brahman is not bound by space, time and matter.

When one obtains “Chitta-Shuddhi” by performing “Nishkaama-Karma” one becomes eligible to acquire “Tattva-Jnana” and thereby attain Moksha. One cannot attain Moksha without Chitta-Shuddhi. Sri Sannidhanam expressed joy at the organising of “Bhashyamrita Vahini” and blessed Yedathore Swamiji Sri Shanka Bharati and concluded the Anugraha Bhashanam.

After Sri Sannidhanam concluded the Anugraha Bhashanam, Sri Mahasannidhanam blessed the huge gathering of devotees with His Darshan. The event ended with Arati to the silver Vigraha of Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankara Bhagavatpada in the divine presence of the Ubhaya Jagadgurus.

  • The Self (Atma) is never born nor does It ever die; neither does It cease to exist after having once existed nor does the Self come into existence, like the body, having not existed before. Unborn, eternal, It undergoes no change whatsoever and is primeval; It is not destroyed when the body is destroyed. Bhagavan Sri Krishna on Significance of God
  • A person who hears about the condemnation of another incurs sin. What need be said about the sin incurred by a man who actually engages in nit picking? Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankara Bhagavatpada on Prabodha Sudhakara
  • If you pray with faith and devotion, the Lord will certainly listen to your earnest prayers. Jagadguru Sri Chandrashekhara Bharati Mahaswamigal on Significance of God
  • Our nation and its culture have a hoary past and we should all be proud of it. Mere aping of the West is not beneficial for us. For example, care of aged parents is something that has come down to us traditionally and we must never neglect this duty by imbibing concepts of some free societies, wherein concern for one’s own parents is at low ebb. Jagadguru Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamigal on Significance of God
  • It is a great blunder not to make proper use of the body and mind that has been given to us by God. Jagadguru Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal on Significance of God's Names
