Sri Malahanikareshwara – A Documentary Film (in ಕನ್ನಡ, हिंदि, తెలుగు, தமிழ் & English)
The Sri Mala-haani-kareshwara (Remover of demerits or paapa) Temple is a revered ancient Shiva temple in Sringeri, Karnataka that goes back to the time of Ramayana. Sringeri is famous for being home to the Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, the first and foremost of the four centers of Vedic learning established by Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya twelve centuries ago. Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya included Sri Malahanikareshwara Shivalinga, mentioned in the Puranas, as a vital part of the tradition of the Sharada Peetham at Sringeri.
This film traces the origin and history of Sri Malahanikareshwara temple. Speaking in lucid Sanskrit, Sringeri Jagadguru Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Sannidhanam explains, using references from Puranas and scriptural texts, how Maharshi Vibhandaka (son of Maharshi Kashyapa) was instrumental in the manifestation of the Sri Malahanikareshwara Shivalinga.
This film also recounts the significance of this Shivalingam in the life of Maharshi Vibhandaka’s son, Maharshi Rishyashringa, who performed the Putra Kameshti Yajna for Raja Dasharatha and was instrumental in ushering the Avatar of Sri Rama. The film highlights the temple’s history, significance, and development, as well as the extraordinary tradition upheld by the successive Jagadgurus of Sringeri.
This film was made to commemorate the day of the Kumbhabhisheka (Magha Krishna Saptami of the Shubhakrit Samvatsara, February 12, 2023) and the dedication of a Rajagopuram at this ancient temple of Sri Malahanikareshwara in Sringeri. A granite Shikhara was also dedicated at the shrine of Goddess Bhavani.
Where the Journeys of Maharshi Vibhandaka, Maharshi Rishyashringa & Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya Converge.
