Grastodaya Khagrāsa Chandra Grahanam
(Details as per Sri Sringeri Shankara Math Panchangam)

On the Kartika Poornima day (8-11-2022, Tuesday) of the ensuing Shubhakrit Samvatsara, Grastodaya Khagraasa Chandra Grahanam occurs in the Mesha Rashi corresponding to the Bharani Nakshatra.

Those Astikas associated with the Mesha Rashi are not supposed to see this Grahanam. All those Astikas whose birth Nakshatra is either Ashvini, Bharani, Krittika, Poorvashadha or Poorvaphalguni  Nakshatra and those associated with either the Mesha, Vrishabha, Kanya or Makara Rashi need to do Dosha Parihaara.

Procedures for Astikas during Chandra Grahanam

From sunrise to the Grahana Moksha Kala, fasting needs to be observed by all Astikas. Children, the elderly and those who may be afflicted with health issues, are exempted from this fast. If a Shraaddha is scheduled to be performed on this day, it has to be postponed to the following day.

Drishya Punya Kala Snanam and Anushthanam

The Grahana Punyakala Snana is to be had at 5:58 PM.

After Snana, Mantras received through Upadesha from a Guru have to be chanted. Those who have not received such Upadesha must chant devata stotras.

Those qualified for doing Pitru Tarpanam must perform Thila Tarpanam for the Pitrus.

After the Grahana Moksha (around 6:20 PM), Snanam must be performed again.

For Dosha Parihara, rice grains placed inside a white colored cloth and black gram (urad daal) placed inside a grey coloured cloth need to be donated.
