Jagadguru visit to Avala Math

Poornahuti of Sahasrachandi Mahayaga at Avala Matha in the Jagadguru’s presence

From Mulleria, the Jagadguru Mahaswamiji reached Avala Math and was received with devotional welcome by Karadastha Samaja. At the Sabha to welcome the Jagadguru, it was highlighted that Karada Samaja feels proud to say that their Gurupeetham is Sringeri Sharada Peetham. On the occasion, a Sahasrachandi Mahayaga had been organized for the welfare of humanity from 18-22nd February 2014 in the 600 year old Sri Durga Parameshwari temple of Avala Math. Parayana of Saptashati for a thousand times, Homa by chanting the Saptashati a hundred times, and Moola Mantra Japa were performed as part of the Mahayaga.

In His Anugraha Bhashanam, the Jagadguru said that Sri Adi Shankara Bhagavatpada established four Peethams in four directions and quoted the verse from Bhagavatpada’s Mahanushansanam – आन्ध्रद्रविडकर्नाटकेरलादिप्रभेदतः । शृङ्गेर्यधीना देशास्ते ह्यवाचीदिगवस्थिताः ॥ – stating that the southern regions including Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala fall under the jurisdiction of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham in matters of spreading Dharma. The Jagadguru mentioned that the Karada Brahmana Samaja since ages has been following the ordinance of Sringeri Jagadguru and invoked Jaganmata Sri Chandika Parameshwari to bless all with Shreyas. After the Sharada Chandramoulishwara Pooja, the Jagadguru worshipped at the shrine of Sri Durga Parameshwari.

On 22nd February 2014 morning, the Jagadguru walked amidst thick trees towards Moolasthana Matha and had Darshan of Goddess Durgaparameshwari there. Then the Jagadguru inaugurated Durga Kripa Bhavana and blessed the devotees assembled there with an Ashirvachanam. Then the Jagadguru inaugurated the Southern Gopuram and proceeded to grace the Guruvandana Sabha organized by the Karada Brahmana Samaja.

After accepting the Abhinandana Patra from the Samaja president, the Jagadguru gave an elaborate Anugraha Bhashanam on the greatness of the Divine Mother. The Jagadguru said Sri Adi Shankarabhagavatpada has eulogised the Jaganmata in many different ways; the first one being शिवः शक्त्या युक्तो यदि भवति शक्तः प्रभवितुं न चेदेवं देवो न खलु कुशलः स्पन्दितुमपि । – that the Lord needs the Mother to create the world. In the Durga Saptashati, Brahma and other Devatas praise the Goddess. Amongst Her names are आब्रह्मकीटजननी वर्णाश्रमविधायिनी निजाज्ञारूपनिगमा पुण्यापुण्यफलप्रदा. She is the mother of the entire world starting from Chaturmukha Brahma to a small microbe. She is the one who dictates what is Dharma. She is the very form of the Veda. She is the one who gives the result of Punya and Papa. Even if the Goddess does different tasks and Her names and forms are different, the Chaitanya is the same. It is said that The Goddess when blessing us with wealth is Lakshmi, when conferring knowledge upon us is Saraswati and when protecting us by annihilating enemies and removing danger, is Durga. We should do Upasana with this understanding that the same Divine Mother blesses us through all these forms. The Jagadguru highlighted the importance of Saptashati Parayanam through the very words of the Goddess uttered in the 12th Adhyaya of Saptashati, termed “Bhagavati Vakyam”. She says “My divine presence exists where the Saptashati is chanted. All troubles will subside. The desired will be obtained”.

The Jagadguru praised the devotion and discipline with which the Sahasrachandi Mahayaga was being conducted, having Vidwan Krishnaraja Bhat of the Sringeri Pathashala as the Pradhana Acharya. The Jagadguru also stated that the first event to happen after the inauguration of the Southern Gopuram had been the Sri Sharada Chandramoulishwara Pooja. This would bestow prosperity to the place and inspire the devotees to engage in Dharmic activities.

Then the Jagadguru graced the Sahasrachandika Yaga Poornahuti. After the Poornahuti the Jagadguru instructed all the Ritwiks to chant the 11th Adhyaya of Saptashati (Narayani Stuti) and blessed every single Ritwik with Phala Mantrakshata.

That afternoon, the Jagadguru on the way to Malla visited Chaitanya Vidyalaya run by Chaitanya trust and affiliated to Bharatheeya Vidya Nikethan located at Rishikshetra, Kasaragod, Kerala and laid foundation stone for a new building to be used for education and research in Sanskrit & and other Indian languages. In the Ashirvachanam, the Jagadguru appreciated the noble work the faculties are doing to inculcate our culture in Students. The Jagadguru emphasized the need to educate children on the teachings of great Maharishis of Vedic lore. The Jagadguru expressed joy at the efforts of the Chaitanya trust in propagating Sanskrit. We should learn this language with a strong feeling that it is ours. One should feel proud of conversing in Sanskrit. The Jagadguru also blessed the construction activity by giving Rs. 2 lakhs on behalf of the Peetham as Sharada Prasada.
