The significance of the word “Rameshwara” and the greatness of Rameshwara-Kshetram

In His Anugraha Bhashanam upon arrival at Rameswaram, the Jagadguru spoke about the significance of the word “Rameshwara” and the greatness of the Kshetram.

Sringeri and Rameswaram have a centuries-old relationship as Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya assigned the Kshetram of the Dakshinamnaya Sringeri Sharada Peetham as Rameswaram. The Sringeri Jagadgurus consequently have the special privilege to personally offer worship at Rameswaram. Archakas at Rameswaram can worship Sri Ramanathaswamy only after having Deeksha from the Sringeri Jagadguru.
