The holy town Varanasi also known widely by the names of Kashi (Kasi) and Benares is the oldest city in the world, most famous as a major pilgrim centre for all devout Hindus. The presiding deity at Varanasi is Lord Vishwanatha along with His consort Goddess Sri Vishalakshi. Kashi is also famed as one among the twelve Jyotirlinga Kshetras of yore.

There is an old adage which highlights the greatness of Varanasi which says “काश्यां हि मरणान्मुक्तिः“, there by– meaning any body who dies at Kashi attains Moksha instantly It is also one of the Moksha Dayika kshetras mentioned herein

अयोध्या मथुरा माया काशी काञ्ची अवन्तिका ।
पुरी द्वारवती चैव सप्तैता मोक्षदायिकाः ॥

History

Apart from myriad leelas and the stay of Mahapurushas, Kashi is also famed, for the fact that Acharya Sri Adi Shankaracharya stayed here for sometime and composed many works notably the Manisha Panchakam, the Kashi Panchakam and others, during his stay at Kashi.

The Branch Math at Varanasi traces its origins to Sri Vidyaranya Mahaswami, the 13th Jagadguru  Shankaracharya of Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham himself who in Circa A.D. 1346 installed a Chandramouleeshwara Shivalinga at the Math in Varanasi.

Temple

The present temple, which houses the shrines of Sri MahaGanapati, Sri Sharadamba and Sri Adishankaracharya was renovated by The Maharani of Burdwan, Smt. Radha Rani Devi. Pujas, abhishekam and archana are performed daily.

Navarathri and Maha Shivarathri pujas and also Homas are performed every year ,in addition to vedaparayana on a regular basis daily.

The branch provides accommodation for all the devotes besides arranging to perform various pujas ,yagas, and Homas such as Rudra Homa, Maha Rudra Athi Rudra chandikayaga and such other homas.

The Sri Math Corsists of 15 Rooms provided with all amenities for the accommodation of visiting pilgrims apart from fixing up Ritwiks to perform the rituals.
