Tirupur Shankar Math
Sri Sringeri Shankar Math at Tirupur

The Devotees of Sringeri Saradha Peetham are regularly blessed by Acharyals of Sri Saradha Peetham by their visit to Tirupur during all their Vijaya Yathras. The connection therefore is a very long one since the days of H.H. Sri Sri Chandrasekara Barathy. During the year 1987 the Vijaya Yatra of our Acharyal Sri Sri Barathi Theertha Mahaswamigal was extensive and the Devotees of Tirupur had occasion to have Dharsan of His Holiness at various places in the camp. It was felt at that time by the Sishyas that we must have a branch of Sri Saradha Peetham at Tirupur. When we approached His Holiness on the matter, He was very happy and He wanted us to identify a place for the branch.

Shri. T. Sundaram, Advocate of Tirupur who was a great devotee of our Math, immediately offered a site in a Prime locality measuring about 6 cents situated on the Avanashi Main Road, for starting the branch. Our Holiness immediately agreed to lay the foundation stone and 09th December 1987 was fixed by Him for the function.

During his visit to Tirupur H.H. for the purpose He laid the foundation stone for the construction of Sri Sringeri Sankara Math with Sri Saradha Temple on 09th December 1987 and he has also agreed to perform the Kumbabishekam of the Temple if the work is completed within a period of four months prior to His returning to Sringeri. Though the time was very short to build a temple, the work was entrusted to another great devotee of our Acharyal Shri. M. Raja of Vijayaraja & Co, Coimbatore by our Acharyal in His Sathyamangalam Camp. The work was immediately started and with the total dedication of Shri. M.Raja the work was completed within the time frame and our Acharyal agreed to perform the Kumbabishegam and fixed the date for Kumbabishegam on 11th April 1988.

Sri Acharyal came to Tirupur again specially for the purpose and performed the historic Kumbabishegam on 11th April 1988. Acharyal was very happy as the temple project was completed in such a short time as four months, which is unique.

  • Just as in this body, the embodied one passes through boyhood, youth, and old age, so does one pass into another body. With reference to this (birth, aging and death), the wise man is not disturbed. Bhagavan Sri Krishna on Significance of God
  • An object continues to be dear as long as one derives pleasure from it and it is detested for the duration that it causes pain. The same object cannot be always liked or disliked. Sometimes, that which is not dear may become dear. Moreover, that which was loveable can turn unpleasant. The Atma, towards which affection never wanes, is always the most beloved. Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankara Bhagavatpada on Shatashloki
  • Blessings are the monopoly of God and we must all pray for his gracious blessings. Jagadguru Sri Chandrashekhara Bharati Mahaswamigal on Significance of God
  • It is pitiful that when many of us are asked, “who are you?”, The first thought that arises is “I am a Keralite”, or “I am a Punjabi”, etc. The thought that should immediately stem is “I am an Indian”. If people first feel that they are Indians and only then think of divisions, the nation will have great prosperity and the divisive forces will not be operative as they are today. Jagadguru Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamigal on Significance of God
  • Instead of using the tongue for speaking futile issues, use it to chant the names of God. God shall then guide you along the right and beneficial path. Jagadguru Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal on Significance of God's Names
